Food Futures 1: Limiting livestock production to pasture and by-products in a search for sustainable diets in Sweden
Breakfast 8.15-8.45 Seminar 8.45-9.45
Please join a breakfast seminar in the Narrating Climate Futures initiative with Dr. Elin Röös, Associate Senior Lecturer, Department of Energy and Technology, Division of Agricultural Engineering, SLU, Uppsala
Dr. Elin Röös is a leader in sustainable food production and land use research. She has worked on projects including life-cycle assessment of the climate impact of food, a climate tax on food, innovative approaches to increase agroecological farming in the EU, and promoting dietary shifts towards more vegetarian diets.
She has recently worked with stakeholders to develop a participatory vision for a sustainable Nordic food system, which would focus on diversified, local, organic production, with livestock production limited to by-products from food production and forage to avoid competition between food and feed. They identified a diet that would reduce current meat consumption over 80% in Nordic countries, with substantial savings in land and greenhouse gas emissions. In her breakfast seminar, Dr. Röös will focus on the vision developed for a sustainable Swedish food system.
